Danna's journey with Parent Action

My Journey with a Wonderful Community: Parent Action

My journey in this wonderful community began around seven years ago when I was a mother of two beautiful young children. They have been my rock and my primary support throughout this experience. I was young and full of joy, grateful to have them by my side, and eager to share quality time doing activities together.

During a difficult time, one of my GPs, who speaks Spanish, tried to support me. Instead of referring me to therapy, she encouraged me to join Espacio Mamá. That’s where I met Grace, Minnie, Kate, Josephine, and other incredible team members and volunteers who welcomed me with the warmth and kindness I truly needed.

Being surrounded by other mothers like me and discovering such a strong, supportive community has inspired me to remain part of this journey. Through Citizens UK, I joined a programme designed for mothers who wanted to step out of their comfort zones and develop skills we might not have even realised we had.

This programme focused on leadership and community organisation, delivered in Spanish, with a crèche and a dedicated team that continues to be the backbone of these initiatives. One of these projects, Just Transition, has allowed Parent Action to make a powerful statement in London about climate change, leading a campaign where mothers and children have actively used their diverse skills to drive change.

Through this work, we have reached local councils, the Mayor of London, churches, and other institutions, uniting for a common goal. I have had the privilege of living in different parts of the world, but one of the most beautiful gifts London has given me is my children—and the opportunity to be part of an open, welcoming community like Parent Action.

Without a doubt, my journey and continued growth are thanks to the mothers, volunteers, and dedicated members of this incredible community.
